After reading the Art of Travel by Alain De Botton, a popular British philosopher, I’ve become a huge fan. He seamlessly blends the old and the new into an amazingly easy, compelling story on the significance of travel. I’m excited to read his other books too!
I recently stumbled across this video featuring De Botton called “Epicurus on Happiness – Philosophy: A Guide to Happiness.” It’s part of a series featuring thinkers who have influenced history and our ideas about the pursuit of happiness. He discusses our modern misconceptions about the ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus (341-270BCE), who was an advocate of “friends, freedom and an analyzed life” as the path to happiness, not gluttonous consumption. It sounds like a pretty good recipe for happiness to me.
Take a few minutes to travel back into history and learn a little something new…
If you have trouble viewing the video, you can find it here. I look forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments.
